Holy Batman! It's a Wedding!

My son's best friend from high school was having a small wedding--25 guests.  The groom-to-be wanted to surprise his bride with a cake similar to one that she'd seen on a wedding planning website, so my son drafted me to make the cake as his gift to the couple.  This is a 2-tier version of the inspiration cake.

The cake is golden vanilla with blackberry buttercream filling and blackberry scented vanilla buttercream icing.  It would easily serve 36.  The fondant is vanilla.  The navy blue fondant flowers and silver dragees are handmade and edible.  The topper is the Wilton "Double Hearts" cake pick.

As the wedding day neared, the guest list had swelled to over 60.  Since my son wanted me to make a Batman themed grooms cake for his friend, too, I decided to enlarge that cake from one layer to 2 layers to make up the extra servings.

The cake is double chocolate with chocolate oreo mousse filling and vanilla buttercream icing.  It would easily serve 30.  The black fondant is chocolate.  The fondant background for the batman emblem is vanilla dusted with edible gold dust.

The couple had a beautiful day for the wedding and they were delighted with the edible gifts from their best man!

Everything's Coming Up Roses!

Mary's mom loves pink roses, so pink roses she received for her 93rd birthday on New Year's day.

The marble cake with chocolate mousse filling is 8" tall and serves 40.  It's iced in vanilla buttercream with vanilla flavored fondant for the stems and roses.
